Family Health Fair 2006 WOW, what a fair! More people attended the health fair on April 22nd than last year. Individuals joined us from as far as Albuquerque and as close as Reserve. The fair was wonderful there were many festivities and free screenings. The Catron County Health Council sponsors the Family Health Fair through a grant from the Department of Health. White Mountain Regional Medical Center, out of Springerville provided the cholesterol and PSA screenings. The community members partook of this great opportunity and expressed how delighted they were to have this opportunity. There were not only screenings but many freebies were given along with information. The information contained new and existing programs that are available in the county as well as outside the county. Each and every year the word spreads of the immensity of the fair and it gets easier to intrigue individuals to participate and bring information. There was water testing provided by the Environment Department, free haircuts and massages. If your child brought in their immunization record they were entered into a bicycle drawing. The winner of the bicycle this year was Dominick Landrum. Many agencies participated and are listed below. There were door prizes donated by the participants and community residents, along with the CCHC. The health walk was going on outside at the same time. If you completed a mile walk, you received a free T-shirt. Ninety two young and wise individuals participated in the walk. It was a treat to see everyone walking. After fasting, and completion of the cholesterol check, there were burritos, coffee and orange juice donated by our restaurants and Jakes Mercantile from Reserve and Glenwood, offered to everyone. They were delicious, so good that they did not last long enough. Not to worry though the Reserve PTO was there to fill the hunger with their lunch at a reasonable rate. If you have never experienced the Family Health Fair |
